Little Girl’s Point in the Michigan U.P.
These were shot at Little Girl's Point in the Michigan U.P. in early October. This is one of those spots that offers so much more to the senses than I can show in a photo – the larger waves sent water splashing into my face (and the camera's lens!), a crisp wind blew the scent of Superior inland, and the when the waves washed in and out over the rocks, they tumbled together to make an almost eerie clattering sound coming from under the water.
As always, please let me know what you think!
– Jack
The Lake Superior shoreline holds my favorite places in Michigan. You captured this spot perfectly Jack. No better place for photographing the colorful rocks either. Nice job on both.
Thanks, Mark! The Lake Superior shoreline is one of my favorite places in the world, from the U.P. to Superior. I really have to get to the North Shore one of these days!
There were lots of agate hunters on the beach the day I shot this, carrying buckets of rocks – but I couldn’t spot an agate to save my life! :^D
“I really have to get to the North Shore one of these days!”
Watch what you wish for! I was perfectly content shooting in the UP and northern WI and used to say the same thing. Now I am obsessed with the North Shore and visit no less than once every six weeks! If you ever make it up that way and need some ideas, feel free to contact me.
Hi, Ben – great to see you here! I’ve been enjoying your work for quite a while now!
As for the North Shore – I hope to get the chance to put that to the test one of these days! My big problem there is that I usually can only take 2-3 days for a trip, so I wouldn’t have much time actually there. Someday, though…
Thank you Jack. I suppose this means I should find some free time to update my site with new photos? :~D With the number of places we have in common and vists in very similar time frames I am suprised we have not encountered each other.
You can cover a lot of the Shore in 2-3 days. Granted, you will likely not have enough time to take in the views from places such as Oberg Mtn or Lookout Mtn or make the trek to falls such as Barrier Falls. You can, however, visit a lot of places in that time frame. I can help you plan a trip or even show you around. I don’t need much of an excuse to visit the Shore!
Yes, Ben, please do post some new images! :^D
It does seem like we should have run into each other by now, doesn’t it? There are a few photographers with whom I have such overlap it’s pretty amazing – and it seems like I always discover their work when I stumble upon their images that are oh-so-close to something I thought was pretty unique to me… :^D
Thanks for the offer of North Shore help – if/when I get a chance to go up I’ll take you up on that!
