First Alaska Photos – Kenai Fjords and Seward Area
Here is the first handful of photos from my trip to Alaska in June 2011. I'm at a loss for words to describe the expansive grandeur of the Alaskan landscape. Mountains, lakes, ocean, forests, meadows, rivers; moose, bear, Dall sheep, sea otters, sea lions, porpoises, whales, eagles, puffins – I could go on for days and still I'd miss some of the wonders of Alaska. Suffice it to say that I'm in love with Alaska and look forward to future trips!
And I certainly can't forget the people that made this trip special! I got to spend time with my sister Robin for the first time in many years, as well as Dave Taylor of SixtyOne North, Jena Haferman, Scott Slone of Alaska HDTV and his wife Mahala, and Albert Marquez of Planet Earth Adventures.
I've got a substantial backlog of photos to process from my trip to Alaska and subsequent photo trips closer to home; I'll be working on images and posting them as time permits. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these photos – please post your thoughts & feelings below!

Jack! Wonderful images & I can’t wait to see more. It was a pleasure having you up here and showing you around, looking forward to your next visit!
Thanks, Dave – it was great getting to meet & spend time with you all, and I’m looking forward to my next visit, too! :^D
I’m also looking forward to seeing more of your photos from the fjords, as well as your subsequent trips – I’m guessing you’ve got quite the backlog yourself!

I’d love to have this as a print! For me, it really personifies the Alaska coastal habitat as much I can almost feel the story of the image. Nicely done!
It was great meeting you and enjoying the photos!
Cheers,
Scott
Jack,
Great photos! It was a pleasure meeting you and sharing that beautiful moment in the Fjords. Looking forward to your return to Alaska!
Albert
Hey, Scott –
Thanks for your kind words! That image is one of my favorites, too – I absolutely loved the sea stacks in the fog…
It was great meeting you & Mahala, too!

Hi, Albert –
Thanks! I just looked through (& greatly enjoyed) your album on Facebook – it’s almost like we were in the same place at the same time! ;^D
It was a great pleasure meeting you & taking the 9-hour boat tour of the fjords with you, Dave, & Jena! (Just thought I’d clarify so our wives didn’t start to wonder what our “beautiful moment” was… ;^D )
Dunno when I’ll get back to AK, but I’m looking forward to it already!

Hey Jack – wonderful photos! Looks like you had a great trip! I really like that area – in fact, so much that I live there. 🙂
Thanks, Ron – and I’m pretty sure we went right by your house on our boat trip! (I’m really trying hard to not be desperately jealous, but it’s not easy! :^D )

LOL – visit on a bad day in the winter and it will cure that. 🙂
Wow, that’s great you took a trip up there Jack! No doubt you will be processing images for the coming year.
The sea stacks are really nice, and I really like the iceberg abstract. All of them communicate the wild, untamed wilderness that we seem to associate with Alaska quite often. Looking forward to seeing more.
Hey, Mark –
Yes, Alaska is an amazing place – you could spend a lifetime there and not have explored it all! I do have lots more photos to work on… 🙂
