Beloit Holidazzle 2009 – Followup
Well, the Beloit Holidazzle was tonight, and a great time was had by all! The turnout was better than I expected, given the cold weather, and people seemed to be in a festive mood. I met a lot of friendly art lovers and got to talk with them about my work, reconnected with some folks…
Recommended Reading – New Ebooks by Joseph Rossbach, Ian Plant, and Guy Tal
Good news for landscape photographers everywhere! Joseph Rossbach and Ian Plant have released great new ebooks in their ongoing series of instructional books on landscape photography. Guy Tal has joined in the fun with his first ebook, which I hope will be the start of a series from him! Joseph Rossbach’s “10 Tips for Amazing…

As Seen on The Sonic Blog (Photography is Art)
My interests in photography are generally limited to landscape and nature subjects, but when I noticed a number of visits to my website coming from Peter Feldhaus’ The Sonic Blog I visited that site and found myself enjoying a number of definitely non-landscape posts and photos. This looks like a good site for broadening my…

Lake Superior Ice Caves 1756
Philip Schwarz’ recent blog entry “Winter Photography at the Apostle Islands Ice Caves” has me jonesing to get back there this winter. In the meantime, I was looking through some of my photos of the ice caves from 2009 and came across this one I hadn’t processed. I rather like it now, even though at…

Lake Superior Sunset 5325
I shot this in May 2008, but didn’t process it until now – I’m not sure why, as now I rather like it. Maybe I’m just in the mood for a warm sunset on the shore of Lake Superior, listening to the rhythmic slap of the waves rolling in… Just in case others are in…

Profiling LexJet Sunset Photo Metallic Paper
This is just a quick update on my adventures with LexJet’s wonderful Sunset Photo Metallic Paper (see links to previous posts below). LexJet has always said that you can’t profile this paper yourself and to just use one of their profiles or one you made for their eSatin paper, so that’s what I’ve always done….
Very nice Jack. It reminds me of the area I lived in back in Minnesota before I moved west. It triggers some pleasant memories.
Thanks, pj. I really miss this sort of scene when I’m away from the northwoods…
I love this type of stuff Jack. Great examples of the textures and warm brown tones that exist after the “in your face” color has passed.
btw, I can’t really see the text in your reply to PJ above, seems to be white text on a light blue background. Probably a CSS tweak in your new theme?
Thanks, Mark, and thanks for pointing out the css issue… hopefully it’s a bit easier to read now! 🙂

Nice blog and wonderful photography. Thanks for sharing.
Dear Jack, I am just Loving what I have seen so far, your images are amazing on how I experience a closer connection to nature. They remind me of our Central Ontario area of The Muskokas and Algonquin Park, my ancestral home and family lineage. As fourth generation Algonquin I am always drawn to images of the wilderness and the spiritual draw on my soul. I hope you take a peak at my collection of some of my most precious gems in nature that I enjoy so much. They are all my favorite ” Sit Spots”
Thanks, Steven, and thanks for visiting – come back anytime! 🙂
